Washington, DC (March 7, 2005) – The Food and Drug Administration held a public hearing Monday that was attended by representatives of Addison Whitney. The focus of the hearing was to discuss the current practice of applying color to pharmaceutical product packaging and labeling.
The FDA does not currently have a policy for the use of color on drug product packaging and is examining the effectiveness of using color on packaging to limit medication errors. The FDA has detailed guidelines for developing pharmaceutical trade names to limit prescription errors and seems to be considering such policies for packaging. The main purpose of the hearing was to obtain public input on the benefits and potential problems of applying color to drug packaging and labels to identify pharmaceutical products and to create added differentiation.
After participating in the hearing, President and CEO Clayton Tolley said, “Attending this hearing was extremely beneficial to our company and will allow us to offer our pharmaceutical clients the most current information available. Our company has vast experience in working within FDA guidelines to create and submit pharmaceutical trade names, and would welcome established standards to follow when producing logos and packaging for our clients.”
