The Task
Abbott's Diabetes care division approached Addison Whitney with the challenge of updating the package design for its FreeStyle line of blood glucose monitoring systems. The FreeStyle Freedom Blood Glucose Monitoring System has the largest reading of any leading meter. A similar model, the Precision Xtra comes as a smaller meter with a fast 5-second test time and a 60% smaller blood sample, making everyday testing as simple as possible. The third model in the FreeStyle line of monitoring systems, the FreeStyle Flash, gives you accurate, virtually pain-free results in about 7 seconds. Abbott Diabetes Care desired a consistent package design to unify the FreeStyle product line globally.

The Addison Whitney Solution

Visual Branding
The package design created by Addison Whitney is both pleasing to the eye and economical. The style of the package is simple, which allows both consumers and medical professionals to accurately view the product by contrasting the blue name against a bright yellow box. The butterfly is symbolic of the carefree nature of the product as well as the evolution in controlling diabetes in an easily manageable system. The end result is a globally appealing package that presents all products within the FreeStyle line in a more uniform fashion.
